The Vintage Collection San Diego Comic Con 2026 Packaging Nostalgia - Just Not From 2005

During Hasbro's May the 4th, 2026 live stream, the Hasbro Star Wars team revealed the Star Wars The Vintage Collection 3.75-inch San Diego Comic-Con 2026 exclusive, a great-looking Anakin Skywalker and Asajj Ventress two-pack inspired by their confrontation in Genndy Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars series. The set is priced at $51.99 and, figure-wise, this looks like a very appealing release for collectors.

The packaging, however, is where things get a little questionable. Hasbro’s product description says the set features collectible packaging with a “Saturday morning cartoon-style window box framed by a VHS player design.” That sounds fun on paper, but this particular Clone Wars episode aired in 2005, and by then the media landscape had changed quite a bit. VHS was already on the way out, DVDs had been the standard for years, and the Tartakovsky Clone Wars series was not even released on VHS. Saturday morning cartoons were also no longer the cultural centerpiece they had been in the 80s and 90s.

That makes the whole concept feel a little disconnected from the actual time period this release is supposed to celebrate. Had this packaging been used for a 90s-inspired Star Wars release, the built-in VCR look would have made a lot more sense. For a mid-2000s Clone Wars moment, it feels like the person who designed the packaging may not have had a strong understanding of what the media landscape looked like in 2005.

None of this is a deal-breaker, of course. The figures look nice, the Clone Wars inspiration is appreciated, and we are still going to eat this set up when its released. The SDCC 2026 Anakin Skywalker and Asajj Ventress two-pack will be available exclusively at the Hasbro booth during San Diego Comic-Con 2026 while supplies last, with additional purchasing details coming through the official San Diego Comic-Con website. After the show, limited quantities are expected to be available on HasbroPulse.com. Happy collecting!
